Giving For The Sake Of Giving
Ann and I had a pretty good discussion last night on the topic of giving. My stance is that I like to give regardless of whether that person gives back in any way. We have been blessed with abundance and I really enjoy giving gifts, taking people to dinner, taking friends to a ball game, etc. The feelings I have are my payback. I don't really expect anything in return except a little respect and friendship.
Ann is with me part of the way on that but she gets frustrated when we continually give to people who neither give appreciation in return or make any attempt to reciprocate. They talk big but when it comes down to it, they don't do anything.
Ann's stance is that she gives to enhance the relationship. However, when she does that she expects to receive in return.
I believe that we don't necessarily receive from the same place or entity that we give to, but that the Universe will ultimately balance everyone's account accordingly. Not only that, I believe that we will receive 10 times more than we give. So there is no such thing as giving too much.
Let me know what you think.
Have an awesome day!
Ken
Hey Ken. This topic really strikes a chord with me. Here's where I am on it today, in a nutshell (no pun intended):
"Why waste water on a stump when the oak tree is thirsty?"
Whether the Universal return is paid back to me or "paid forward" to others, I want to water the oak tree. The stump has its value, but it has no need for water and won't do anything with it.
I don't expect the oak tree to thank me for my trouble. But I do expect it to use that water as best it can.
Ask Ann how she would feel if you were continually giving to people who immediately thanked God for the blessing, even if they never thanked you, per se. Or to people who instantly exhibited a genuine and heart-felt joy. (Not from the separate place of "I got something out of you, ha!" but from the connected place of "Wow, I can't believe how lucky I am! This is awesome!") I'd bet good money she'd be okay with that.
